Earthquake in San Juan Islands shakes Southern Vancouver Island and Sunshine Coast

Southern Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast were shaken by an earthquake just after 5am this morning.

US Geological Survey says the magnitude 4.5 quake happened at 5:02 am PST and was centred in the San Juan Islands.

Earthquakes Canada says it was 45 kilometres north east of Victoria and by 6am more than 15-hundred people reported feeling it in Victoria, Duncan, Nanaimo, the Sunshine Coast, and Vancouver.

The quake was felt as far north as Courtenay and Powell River.

There are no reports of damage and the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre has not issued a tsunami advisory or alert.
