Throne Speech highlights first day back in BC Legislature for local MLA’s

Our MLA’s get back to work in the legislature today (Tuesday) for the first time in nine months.

The throne speech, (delivered by Lieutenant-Governor Wendy Cocchia), will outline the government’s priorities, and is expected to be dominated by the topic of tariffs and other penalties threatened by U-S President Donald Trump.

The latest budget is due to be presented March 4th, and a couple of major pledges from the NDP during the last election campaign have already been affected by the uncertainty over tariffs.

That one-thousand-dollar grocery rebate has been cancelled, and Finance Minister Brenda Bailey has also said the government will have to “revisit” the promise of a cut in income tax for middle-income earners.
