City of Castlegar issuing precautionary water advisory next week

The City of Castlegar will be conducting flow testing on its water distribution system from May 29 to June 5 as part of its Water & Sewer Hydraulic Model Update project.

Due to the nature of the work, Interior Health has recommended that the city issue a precautionary water advisory throughout the duration of the project.

Precautionary Water Advisory

During a precautionary water advisory, Interior Health recommends that the elderly, children, and anyone with compromised immunity use water brought to a rolling boil for at least one minute or find an alternative safe source of water for brushing teeth, making baby formula, preparing food, washing fruits and vegetables, making ice and beverages, and washing dishes.

What to Expect May 29 – June 5

During the flow testing process, residents may experience low pressure and discoloured water.

Any discolouration is temporary and is not a health hazard.

City staff collect and test water samples throughout the distribution system on a regular basis to ensure water is safe for consumption.

If you notice discolouration in your water, run your cold water taps until the water runs clear.

“We apologize for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your cooperation and understanding during this essential work. Community safety and well-being remain our top priority,” said the city in a statement.

More information can be found on the City’s website.
