Will the Kootenay Lake Ferry ever run on LNG?

We asked the question to Manager of Western Pacific Marine Bryan Coe after it was announced two B.C ferries on the coast would be converted to use liquefied natural gas as fuel.

Coe says in the short term he doesn’t know if the conversion would benefit the local vessels but he isn’t writing off the possibility.

 

Coe believes the biggest issues for the Osprey 2000 and MV Balfour ferries would be conversion costs and LNG storage.

It is estimated converting the two vessels on the coast to LNG will save around half the costs of marine diesel.
