Castlegar civic workers issue strike notice

For the first time in their history Castlegar’s unionized city workers have served strike notice.

The 34 workers represented by CUPE local 2262 will be in a position to take job action effective Monday.

The union says the city refuses to get back to the bargaining table.

Job security is a major issue with the union unhappy about management being able to to the jobs of unionized workers across all departments.

President of the local Leford Lafayette says strike action could include everything from a ban on overtime to a full-fledged walkout.

The workers are also asking for about a 2% annual wage increase – the city is offering an average 1.4%.
