Danger recedes in Slocan Valley blaze

The wildfire burning just east of Slocan Park is not contained but things are looking better for crews and nearby residents.

Speaking late Tuesday Fire Information officer Jordan Turner said any growth of the 100-hectare fire was not towards properties.
Work continued on building a machine guard.

The South East Fire Centre is also bringing in specialist teams with experience of fighting wildfires close to communities.

The RDCK’s regional fire chief said the risk to residents had been significantly reduced because of Tuesday’s wildfire crew efforts.

The evacuation alert remained in effect Tuesday night as a precautionary measure.
