Review yields improvements to be implemented at KBRH

Interior Health’s review of elective joint replacement surgeries at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital has outlined some improvements which could be made there.

Medical director Doctor Ron Cameron says the hospital will implement many of the suggestions.

Other improvements included upgrading the filters for the OR air system, a committment to enhance the triage experience, and education for surgical staff regarding standards around items such as dosage for antibiotic prophylaxis prior to surgery.

The review was prompted by an increase of surgical site infections.

Cameron says patients who had their surgeries will be given priority to reschedule as the procedures resume tomorrow.
