Another reminder of the need to keep human garbage secure and away from wildlife.
This from local Conservation Officer Jason Hawkes who had to destroy a black bear earlier this week that had swum over the lake before climbing out at the Prestige Dock in Nelson.
Hawkes says it’s a rare incident and this animal had no known companions … Â But bears do swim to food sources…
Hawkes says the bear was shot because it was in a high pedestrian traffic area and had become habituated the last few months after getting into garbage on the North Shore.
