Campfires are now banned in our region.
The prohibition was put into effect at noon today by the Southeast Fire Centre.
Fire information officer Carlee Kachman says this is being done due to hot weather creating an increased risk for wildfires.
The prohibition does not apply to cooking stoves which use gas, propane or briquettes so long as the height of the flame is less than 15 centimetres.
The ban is also in effect within city limits.
