Shorter time period for winter tires

It may come as a surprise to those who drive our passes in the winter time but the Government has announced you won’t need your winter tires on for as long.
As part of a safety review the Ministry says winter tires will be required only for a six month period October 1st till March 31st.
Ken Lawson with Emcon says he couldn’t get an explanation from the Ministry but in his opinion April generally sees wet and bare roads.

Previously you needed to keep your winters on till the end of April.
