Update: Mount Sentinel School remains closed

Mount Sentinel School in South Slocan will remain closed for Monday, June 27th.

The school was evacuated Friday following an unspecified threat.

Students were sent home and grad ceremonies postponed.

School District 8 posted the following update Sunday night:

Dear Parents and Guardians

We continue to appreciate your continued patience

We have made the decision to continue with the closure of the school for Monday, June 27 given where we are at in the school year and that provincial exams are now complete coupled with the ongoing police investigation.

We have made this decision in consultation with our violence threat risk assessment team that includes safe school experts, our own Trauma Response Team, the RCMP, Nelson Police and MCFD.

Re-opening the school is our priority and we are hoping that will happen on Tuesday. Please continue to watch the website as we will post updates as they are available.

Thank you to everyone who has remained extra vigilant over the weekend and we ask that we continue to report anything that is suspicious in nature.

Next update: Monday, June 27. 5:00 pm
