Tougher penalties planned for Wildfire Act

The BC Government is taking steps to try to combat behaviour which contributes to wildfire risk.

Proposed Wildfire Act amendments would see fines increased drastically as well as penalties introduced for interfering with fire-combat efforts.

Mike Morris, the Minister Of Public Safety, tells us anywhere from 30-40% of wildfires are human-caused.

The legislative moves come after a devastating summer for wildfires last year in our region, especially in the Rock Creek area which destroyed 30 homes and forced a number of evacuations.
