Castlegar City Council continues to work towards obtaining bear-smart status.
Councilor Florio Vassilakakis says they are looking at changes to the city’s official community plan to bring them closer to that distinction.
The city will adopt a few policies to help them towards being bear-smart.
This includes promoting reasonable attractant management among residents to reduce wildlife conflict, continuing to support community education surrounding wildlife conflict and considering important bear habitat and travel corridors in land use decisions.
