An Independent Investigation Office (IIO) team is in Nelson looking into how alleged armed robber Andrew Stevenson was hurt following last Friday’s police chase.
We know he was injured when he climbed over the side of a bridge, tried to clamber down a tree and then fell about 12 metres.
IIO spokesman Owen Court says his office needs to decide if there was any connection between the officer’s action or inaction and that injury.
That’s why they need to talk to Stevenson and gather other evidence.
Court would not say when their initial probe would be finished.
Not until then will police offer any info about the arrest of Stevenson and his alleged accomplice Krista Kalmikoff.
