Stop changes to the ALR: Kootenay farmers

Kootenay farmers are joining others across BC in appealing to the new Agriculture Minister to stop the government’s proposed changes to the Agricultural Land Reserve.

Nelson’s Abra Brynne is part of the BC Food Systems Network.

She says Minister Norm Letnick has previously displayed a progressive approach to agriculture by increasing the budget of the Agricultural Land Commission.

The proposed changes to the ALR – that would see Kootenay and Northern BC land earmarked for possible development – happened without any public consultation.

Brynne says all stakeholders can help come up with ideas to boost BC agriculture and improve the viability of the ALR.
