No rush to apply for GF deer cull

There is no guarantee the city of Grand Forks will end up using a cull as an option to reduce its urban deer population.

This despite a recent study that confirmed the deer have become permanently habituated in the city and would not stay away if they’re scared off by dogs.

Councillor Chris Hammett says the city must fulfill all its due diligence before applying to the Province for a culling permit.

Hammett says experts have found the hazing of deer by trained dogs is not successful although she’s heard another pilot project is being tested.
