Free transit offered across West Kootenay on municipal election day

West Kootenay residents will be able to ride BC Transit for free on Saturday, Oct. 17, as voters head to the polls for the 2026 municipal elections.

BC Transit has announced free service in participating communities across British Columbia, including the West Kootenay, Cranbrook and Revelstoke.

The initiative aims to make it easier for residents to access polling stations without the added cost of transportation.

The fare-free service will also include handyDART in applicable regions, helping residents with mobility challenges access transportation on election day.

Some transit systems will have route restrictions, particularly on inter-regional services.

West Kootenay residents are encouraged to check their local transit schedules and routes before travelling to vote.

More information about routes, schedules and participating services is available at bctransit.com.
