FortisBC customers will see no change to the cost of natural gas for the remainder of 2026.
The British Columbia Utilities Commission has approved keeping FortisBC’s cost of gas rate at $1.660 per gigajoule, effective Oct. 1.
The utility said in a statement the rate is the commodity cost of the natural gas itself and does not include other charges that make up a customer’s bill, such as delivery, storage and transportation, or taxes.
The voluntary designated renewable natural gas rate will also remain unchanged at $8.66 per gigajoule.
“We understand that energy costs are important for our customers’ budgets and this news will help provide some certainty for the families and businesses we serve,” said Sarah Nelson, director of customer service.
FortisBC reviews its cost of gas with the BCUC every three months. The next review is scheduled for December.
