A wildfire northeast of Castlegar that grew from almost nothing to 150 hectares in a single day last week is now listed as being held.
That means the BC Wildfire Service doesn’t expect the Ezra Creek fire to grow any further beyond the 157 hectares it has already burned.
In an update posted on its website, the service said planes and helicopters have used retardant and water to slow the fire’s growth and reduce its intensity over the past week.
Airtankers have established a retardant line around the fire’s perimeter with the support of helicopters. Heavy equipment continues to establish machine guard on the southern and northern flanks to support access for ground crews, the update said.
“Crews have made good progress establishing control lines and constructing helipads in areas that have been made accessible,” the service said.
No structures or infrastructure are threatened, but an area restriction is in effect for the wildfire, which means you’re asked to stay out of the area.
