Area restriction in effect around Ezra Creek wildfire

An area restriction is now in effect around the Ezra Creek wildfire northeast of Castlegar as crews continue to battle the lightning-caused blaze.

The BC Wildfire Service imposed the restriction on Crown land surrounding the fire at noon Saturday. It will remain in place until Oct. 15 unless it is rescinded earlier.

The Ezra Creek wildfire is now estimated at 157 hectares.

The restriction covers an area bounded by Highway 3A, Lookout Road, Sentinel Forest Service Road, Pass Creek Road, Spur Road, Tower Road, Fort Pilla Road and Doukhobour Road.

The BC Wildfire Service said people can still access private property within the restricted area but cannot access the restricted area through that property.

Access to Sentinel Lookout remains permitted through the Sentinel Slog Trail only, although people cannot enter the restricted area from the lookout or trail.

The wildfire service is asking people to obey posted signage and remain aware of increased traffic on Lookout Road as crews travel through the area in support of firefighting efforts.

Anyone who enters or remains in the restricted area without authorization could face a $1,150 fine.
