Two bodies discovered near burned vehicle in Fauquier area

RCMP say they don’t suspect foul play in the deaths of two people whose bodies were discovered in a remote area along Lower Arrow Lake.

Police say they received a report on June 16 of a burned vehicle and a body on the Taite Creek forest service road, which is south of Fauquier. Police discovered the vehicle had become stuck in difficult terrain and appears to have caught fire.

The body of an unidentified man was found nearby. Police say he appeared to have suffered burns prior to his death. The body of an unidentified woman was also located in the area, but without any obvious injuries.

Police say while the investigation remains in the early stages, evidence at the scene suggests no crime was committed.

“The area is remote, with no cellular service and extremely limited traffic,” said Nakusp RCMP Cpl. Paul Britton of the Nakusp RCMP. “While the two deceased have been tentatively identified, we continue to work closely with the BC Coroners Service to confirm their identities and to advance the investigation.”

Anyone with any information is urged to contact Nakusp RCMP at 250-265-3677.
