Residents of West Robson are being advised to boil their drinking water starting Monday, June 22, as road construction work is expected to reduce pressure in the community’s water system.
The Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) has issued a precautionary boil-water notice for customers served by the West Robson Water System while crews carry out work along Broadwater Road.
The notice affects residents in the community west of Robson-Raspberry and is expected to remain in place while construction is underway from June 22 to June 27.
According to the RDCK, water mains will need to be partially depressurized during the project. While a complete shutdown of the system is not expected, customers may notice lower water pressure between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. each day.
Health officials recommend residents boil water for at least one minute before drinking it, brushing teeth, making beverages or ice, or washing fruits and vegetables. Boiled water should be stored in a clean, covered container. Bottled or distilled water can also be used.
The RDCK said the notice is being issued as a precaution because lower pressure in water mains can increase the risk of contaminants entering the distribution system.
The district said it will monitor water quality throughout the construction period and notify residents when the boil-water notice can be lifted.
Drivers can also expect delays on Broadwater Road, where traffic will be reduced to a single alternating lane during construction hours.
Public facilities in the area are required to post boil-water notices at sinks and drinking-water fountains accessible to the public, or shut those fixtures off while the advisory remains in effect.
Residents seeking more information can contact the RDCK at 250-352-8161 or visit www.rdck.ca/water.
