Nitehawks fall in overtime, swept by Dynamiters in Kootenay Conference final

The Beaver Valley Nitehawks pushed the Kimberley Dynamiters to overtime but fell 5-4 on a goal by Toren Fron 3:59 into the extra period, ending their season in a four-game sweep.

Brady Magarrell led the Nitehawks with two goals and four points and assisted on Ryan Neufeld’s late tying goal that forced overtime.

Karsten Hugenholtz made 25 saves for Beaver Valley, which battled back in a tightly contested game despite playing its fourth game in five days.

Fron, who scored the winner for Kimberley, also had an assist, while Johnny Lozeman contributed two assists. Adam Kisilevich made 24 saves on 28 shots for the Dynamiters.

“Fronner made up for that penalty late in the third period by going to the net hard,” said Dynamiters head coach and general manager Derek Stuart.

“It was an incredible game,” Stuart said. “Two exhausted teams battling for the fourth time in five days. It’s exciting to be back in the finals, but we’re going to enjoy being Kootenay Conference champions for a few days first.”

The Dynamiters advance to the KIJHL championship against Princeton Posse. They last competed for the title in the 2022-23 season.
