Officials investigating “security breach” after pro-Palestinian sign appears on B.C. parliament

Officials at the British Columbia parliament building are investigating after a pro-Palestinian sign was attached to the front of the building overnight.

A photo posted to social media shows a white banner hanging from the front of the building, with the words “FREE PALESTINE ECONOMIC SANCTIONS.”

“An external security breach took place overnight (Aug. 13-14, 2025) at the Parliament Buildings,” said the Office of the Clerk in a brief statement to Vista News. “The matter is being taken very seriously, and a full investigation is underway.”

The office did not provide further information as the investigation is ongoing.

The Victoria Police Department (VPD) said building staff discovered a banner hanging on the front of the building in the early hours of Thursday morning, and it’s not known who placed it there.

VPD said it’s investigating the incident as mischief, and updates will be provided as the investigation continues.

The sign was removed sometime Thursday morning.
