The BC Coroners Service says eight people in the West Kootenay/Boundary and three people in the East Kootenay died in May and June as a result of toxic drugs.
They were among 145 drug-related deaths province-wide in May and 147 in June.
Year-to-date there have been 15 drug-related deaths in the West Kootenay/Boundary and eight in the East Kootenay. They include four in Nelson, three in Cranbrook, and one each in Fernie, Trail, and the Arrow Lakes.
The BC Coroners Service says fentanyl and fentanyl analogues remain the most common substance detected in toxicology testing. It was found in 70 per cent of fatal cases, followed by meth in 52 per cent and cocaine in 51 per cent.
