UPDATED: Genelle crash a ‘scary close call,’ police say

A motorcyclist involved in last Thursday’s crash with a dump truck at Genelle is expected to survive, police say.

The crash happened around 11:35 a.m. near the intersection of Highway 22 and Courtesy Road.

A 65-year-old Castlegar man driving the dump truck northbound allegedly lost control of his vehicle which caused him to cross over the centre line. The dump truck then struck a 64-year-old Quesnel man riding his motorcycle in the southbound lane.

The motorcyclist suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. He was taken by ambulance to hospital.

Police said the dump truck driver may have suffered a medical episode to the incident. He was also taken to hospital.

Highway traffic was diverted through Genelle for several hours until the scene investigation was completed.

“The incident was believed to be very serious initially due to the circumstances,” Trail RCMP Sgt. Mike Wicentowich said.

“Fortunately, the motorcyclist survived and is expected to fully recover despite this scary close call.”
