Everything on the up as Liquidation World goes down

Everything is going well and on schedule.

That’s the early assessment from the Vice President of Operations at Local Industrial.

It’s the local company hired by the City of Trail to demolish the former Liquidation World building on Spokane St and the former medical clinic on Helena St.

Garrett White says a crew of ten are on the job six days a week, working 10-to-11 hours each day.

White says a considerable amount of preparation and consultation took place with city staff and then they got to work, clearing out the clinic.

“There was a lot of miscellaneous garbage,”  he explained.

“It’s like they were planning to renovate it at one point, that’s all been removed, everything has been cleaned out, basically it’s completely empty now,” he added and then it was on to Liquidation World.

“We did the same over at Spokane St, moved all the contents out,” he said, noting there were no unwanted surprises, but some discoveries at the clinic.

“It’s an older building so it’s weathered a bit, there’s some cool stuff in there like old medical supplies, those types of things, but everything was pretty straight forward,”  stated White.

White expects the abatement part of the job to be tedious.

“An entire asbestos and abatement scope is seven weeks, so we still probably have about a month and a little bit before we are ready to start doing demolition,”

White stresses that the crew is committed to not disrupting the downtown while work continues and is focused on safety.

“There’s nothing that’s going to be leaving the buildings that anybody should be worried about,” he promised.

“Everything is being packaged, double bagged and even in lined bins as its moved.”

Trail is using part of its $3-million Growing Communities Grant received last year to pay for the $1.75-million job.
