Trail RCMP release Q1 crime stats

The Trail RCMP have released their first quarter statistics for 2025, and they say they are comparable to this time last year.

“Usually there’s a slightly less call volume before the spring and summer kick into full gear and we get very busy with those calls due to the nice weather and people traveling and being out and about.” said Trail RCMP Sgt. Mike Wicentowich.

From January to the end of March, the Trail RCMP detachment received 1,176 calls for service.

The most common reasons for these calls were incidents involving suspicious persons, vehicles, or occurrences, followed by well-being checks and mental health checks.

A breakdown of the detachment’s Q1 stats is as follows:

  • 27 assaults
  • 4 sexual offences
  • 1 theft of vehicles
  • 6 break and enters
  • 3 thefts from motor vehicles
  • 9 drug investigations
  • 43 motor vehicle collisions
  • 10 impaired driving incidents
  • 86 BC Motor Vehicle Act violations
  • 8 domestic violence incidents
  • 119 mental health-related incidents
  • 108 well-being check incidents
  • 132 suspicious person/vehicle/occurrence incidents
  • 77 unspecified assistance incidents

The department also recorded a total of 53 person- and violence-related Criminal Code files, and 143 property-related Criminal Code files. In total, there were 274 Criminal Code-related files for this period.

“Overall, our statistics remained very similar to the previous year’s quarter. The Trail RCMP does expect an increase in drug trafficking investigations as our Crime Reduction Unit is back in operation,” said Sgt.  Wicentowich.

“What’s interesting is that our theft of vehicles was down to 1, which is probably one of our lowest ever and only three thefts from vehicles.”

“When I first started here we were in almost up around 100 or more of theft from vehicles, so the public has done a really good job of securing their vehicles and reducing this down.”
