Fragle signs multi-year extension with Smokies

The Trail Smoke Eaters General Manager and Head Coach Tim Fragle is here to stay, after announcing a new multi-year extension through to the end of the 2027 BCHL season.

Fragle is in his fifth season behind the Smoke Eaters bench and the team currently sits in third place in the BCHL Interior Conference and fourth overall in the BCHL with a record of 34-14-3-1.

This season, Fragle became with winningest Head Coach in Smoke Eaters franchise history with 111 wins. During the course of Fragle’s time in Trail, he has helped fifty-two players earn NCAA or Canadian University/College Hockey commitments.

Fragle is also a Smoke Eater alumnus, having played for the Smoke Eaters from 1997-1999, before going off to college hockey himself.

“Coach Tim Fragle is an individual of tremendous character and is an exceptional leader for these young men. Tim’s leadership, work ethic, and passion for this team and the greater Trail community are just some of the aspects of his character that makes him a valuable member of our organization, and with 111 wins under his belt, we believe Tim is the coach who will lead this organization to our next BCHL championship.” said Rich Murphy, President & Owner.

Fragle is eager to return to the Smokies bench.

“My family and I would like to thank Rich & Annie Murphy and the Smoke Eaters organization for this opportunity to remain as the General Manager & Head Coach of the Smoke Eaters. My family and I are look forward to continuing to be part of the Trail community. The ultimate goal is to build a consistent championship caliber team year after year and we are committed to do whatever it takes to accomplish this goal.” said Tim Fragle, General Manager and Head Coach.

The news is welcomed by the local hockey community.

“The Trail Smoke Eaters organization and I are thrilled to announce Tim Fragle’s well-deserved contract extension through the 2026/27 season. Tim’s dedication, hard work, and commitment to our community have had a tremendous impact on our team and the development of our players. I look forward to seeing him continue to lead this team in pursuit of a BCHL Championship this season and beyond.” said Craig Clare, Director of Hockey Operations.

The Smoke Eaters would like to congratulate Tim and his family on his contract extension. We look forward to seeing Tim continue his hard work and dedication to developing players and bringing a BCHL Championship home to Trail.
