The BC NDP and BC Greens have finalized an agreement to work together in the legislature.
The caucus chairs for both parties signed the final terms of the Cooperation and Responsible Government Accord today, which sets out agreements and understandings on different topics between the parties.
The accord comes as the NDP and Greens have been working together since December last year.
The goal of this accord is to get the parties to work together on shared priorities, with hopes of bringing a strong and stable government.
Premier David Eby says with the agreement now finalized; progress could be made on important issues.
“This agreement confirms our commitment to the values of British Columbians, and we look forward to the work ahead with the BC Greens,” said Eby.
Green Party Interim Leader Jeremy Valeriote says now is the time for a stable government that delivers a response to put BC residents at the forefront.
The accord’s priorities include health, mental health care, housing, homelessness, transit, climate, environment, social justice, economic justice, taxation, and democratic and electoral reform.
The province says the accord also has a commitment to consulting on tariff and trade actions.
They add for this year’s shared priorities, the parties aim to work on removing barriers to establishing community health centres, to build tens of thousands of affordable non-market units, expand key transit routes, and end spousal clawbacks on disability payments.
