Updated: Young life lost at RED Mountain

Trail RCMP has confirmed a 20-year-old Port Coquitlam man was the young life lost at RED Mountain earlier this month.

On Friday, March 7, the man had been skiing with his family when he took a different path down a ski run than the group. When the man did not rejoin his family a short time later, they contacted the ski patrol.

Patrollers searched the area where the man was last seen by his family, eventually locating the man who was unresponsive after a piece of the man’s ski equipment had become entangled in a tree and restricted his ability to breathe.

Patrollers attempted to revive the man at the scene before he was transported down the mountain to awaiting paramedics.

Unfortunately, the 20-year-old Port Coquitlam man did not survive his injuries.

The matter was turned over to the BC Coroner’s Service.

“Our most sincere condolences to his family and friends after this very tragic and sudden event.” says Sgt. Mike Wicentowich.

RED Mountain Resort has confirmed the death of a young man in a tragic incident that occurred in bounds on the slope on Friday.

The ski resort posted the follow statement to social media Saturday afternoon.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident that occurred in bounds at RED Mountain Resort yesterday, resulting in the death of a young man,” the resort said.

The statement also expressed gratitude to the resort’s patrol team for their professionalism and swift response.

The resort is cooperating with the RCMP as the investigation continues, adding that further details will be released as they become available.

“Out of privacy and respect for the family, RED Mountain will not be releasing further informational t this time,”

“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
