Rossland asks seniors society to pay back debt

Rossland Council has told a local seniors housing society they need to start paying back their debt.

14 years ago, the City borrowed $450,000 and lent it to Esling Park Lodge to help them out.

But the Society says they can’t afford to pay the $270,000 still outstanding even though it was interest free.

Councillor Kathy Moore says it’s not like the facility is for low income seniors nor has the Society suggested they’re in financial difficulty.

Council says the Society should now pay back some principal debt along with interest over the next 25 years.
