Pioneer Arena on track to close this spring

The City of Castlegar has confirmed that the Pioneer Arena closure remains on schedule for this spring.

According to the City, the spring closure of the facility is not new information. It was also previously reported by Vista Radio in May 2024.

The arena was deemed to be at the end of its life in 2016.

Its imminent closure was first announced in October 2023 and was originally scheduled to close after the 2023–24 ice season.

However, in May 2024, the City announced that its plans to construct a new housing and health care project on the site would not begin until the spring of 2025, allowing Pioneer Ice users one more season in the facility.

Vista Radio reached out to the City on February 13 to inquire whether the facility remains on track to close this spring, which officials confirmed stating that more information on it will be released next week.
