Celebrate imagination and difference at The Bailey Theatre’s family series

The TECK Family Series has an exciting start to the season with “Walter Ego” on Sunday, February 23 from 3 to 4 pm in The Bailey Theatre. This captivating and funny physical theatre show comes from Montreal for kids ages 5-12 years old and their families to enjoy together.

In this show, Mr. Walter lives his life alone in his little apartment following the same routine. As soon as he wakes up, Ms. Weather Reporter announces his mood for the day: sunny, grey, or dark and stormy.

But one day the unexpected happens. There’s dead silence. Walter is disoriented. His vision is distorted as objects come to life and revolt! Is this a surrealist nightmare or does he simply have his head in the clouds? In this world where anything can happen, he can finally dream, and let his imagination run wild.

Through juggling and clown work “Walter Ego” ignites children’s imaginations, encouraging them to be bold and create their own fantastical realms.

The show was created by L’Aubergine, a performance company that has delighted both the young and the young at heart, since its founding in 1974. It has carved out its own unique niche by combining the arts of clowning, circus, music, and theatre and movement.

The Family series continues with two very different performances to give young people a variety of live arts experiences.

On Sunday, March 30 at 3 pm, The Myrtle Sisters bring their show “Same Same Different” to the theatre. The Myrtle Sisters think that they are so alike that they can’t tell themselves apart, until one day an unexpected series of calamities reveals each sister’s secret uniqueness! This live music and dance spectacle is about self-expression and celebrating differences with charm, shenanigans, surprises and mishaps in an outrageously fun experience.

Then, on Sunday, April 27 at 3 pm, nationally recognised children’s educators Will Stroet of Will’s Jams and Seeka of Seeka Sings join together for “Will and Seeka: Friends with Everyone.” This engaging and educational musical show uses sing-along choruses in English and French combined with actions and movement, to teach children about language, movement and music in songs about everyday things including food, animals, family and friends. Kids will leave the show with these joyous songs in their hearts and a skip in their step.

“This season is all about teaching children to embrace their uniqueness and using these differences as a positive force for creativity. These live shows will help kids build confidence in a supportive, shared experience that encourages learning while also having fun,” said Nadine Tremblay, Artistic Director of Trail Arts Council.

Show prices are kept low to make it affordable for a family to attend, with single show tickets priced at $16 for all ages and the 3 performance pass being only $33 per person.

Tickets are on sale at trail-arts.com, by calling 250-368-9669, or by visiting the Box Office at 1501 Cedar Avenue in Trail from Monday to Friday between noon and 4 pm.

This series of shows is made possible thanks to funding from Teck Trail Operations, the BC Arts Council, BC Touring Council, the Government of Canada, and Tourism South Kootenay. We also gratefully acknowledge the financial support of the Province of British Columbia.
