Winter storm warning issued for Kootenay Pass

Highway 3 from Kootenay Pass to Paulson Summit is under a winter storm warning with 25 to 30cm expected to blanket the area.

Snow is expected to start falling on Thursday evening and continue until Saturday morning.

“A frontal system passing through B.C. will bring heavy snowfall and strong winds in its wake. The snowfall associated with this system will begin later this evening and is expected to intensify through the day on Friday. The heaviest snow will ease through Saturday morning,” said Environment Canada,

The storm will bring strong gusts of wind that could bring gusts up to 50 km/h on Friday.

Environment Canada says highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating and blowing snow.

Motorists are urged to drive with caution and adjust their driving behaviour to road conditions.
