BC’s forestry sector could see future changes through a review of Timber Sales.
The BC government has launched the BC Timber Sales review today, an initiative aiming to help the forestry sector overcome challenges while building a guideline for a stronger future.
This review comes as the sector is facing a lot of pressure currently with low allowable annual cuts, difficulty accessing fibre, economic conditions, and heightened efforts to protect trade and the environment.
Minister of Forests Ravi Pramar says those who rely on forests want change.
“That’s why I have asked Lennard Joe, George Abbott and Brian Frenkel to look at the opportunities to leverage BCTS to set B.C.’s forest industry up for the next 100 years,” said Pramar.
The province says the review will provide recommendations to Timber Sales on how they can bring growth to the sector, provide access to fibre, improve partnerships with First Nations and communities, give more jobs, and bringing sustainable practices.
They hope to take action six months after this launch.
