Local skaters shine at West Kootenay Invitational

Over 105 figure skaters from 11 skating clubs took to the ice over the weekend, as Beaver Valley Skating Club joined forces with Rossland and Castlegar Clubs to host the West Kootenay Invitational (WKI)

The event coincided with Beaver Valley Skating Club’s celebrating 50 years, with a focus on collaboration, community spirit and sportsmanship.

The Beaver Valley Skating Club skaters shone at the event with one gold, five silver, and five bronze medals during the weekend.

Castlegar’s Payton Fowler earned her Gold Feet in Artistic. She also brought home Bronze in STAR 10, while Anaya Molitwenik brought home Bronze in STAR 6 and 7 Freeskates, and Emmie Nicol earned Silver in STAR 4 13 and over Freeskate.

Rossland’s Ellie Kermode secured gold in star 9 dance, while teammate Eva Manaigre took home first place in gold artistic.

And Nelson Skating Club won 6 gold medals with skaters Oceane Cheon, Vienna Ferguson, Kailee Stewart and Jen McNutt with a double, as well as 5 silver and 2 Bronze.
