Wendy’s fans in Castlegar will need to hold onto their cravings a little longer– the fast food restaurant is still on its way, but progress has slowed.
Castlegar City Council approved Wendy’s Restaurant’s plan to build at 1680 Columbia Avenue in September, and while the franchise began prepping the site shortly after, activity has halted in recent weeks.
The City’s manager of planning, Meeri Durand, told council on November 18 that there is no indication the project isn’t moving forward, but she noted that delays have occurred due to the availability of contractors.
“There is no indication that Wendy’s is not moving forward. It’s just moving a little bit slower than anticipated.”
CAO Chris Barlow reiterated Durand’s comments during the December 2 council meeting, adding that the company is also still waiting to secure a building permit.
“I can’t comment on what the developer is experiencing within their own development and their discussions with their contractors. However, I can say that they came to the city, received a development and variance permit that council approved, and have been working with our building department to secure a building permit. I understand that will be forthcoming,” he said.
