Trail man charged in aggravated assault investigation

The BC Prosecution Service has approved charges against Brenden Rothweiler in regards to an aggravated assault investigation from 2023.

On March 27 last year, shortly after 5 a.m., a 33-year-old woman was dropped off at the entrance to the Kootenay Boundary Hospital emergency department in Trail, with an injury consistent with a gunshot wound.

Frontline officers attended the hospital, where the victim was determined to have sustained serious, life-threatening injuries.

The man who allegedly dropped the woman off, fled the scene before speaking with hospital staff or police. Later that morning, officers arrested a 36-year-old man in relation to the incident.

Investigational assistance was subsequently provided by the Southeast District’s General Investigation Unit.

Rothweiler is being charged with aggravated assault, discharge of a firearm with intent to wound or disfigure and the illegal storage of a firearm.

Rothweiler has been released from custody with conditions and is awaiting his next court appearance on December 3.

Both individuals involved were known to one another, and this remains an isolated incident.
