Federal government announces homebuilding program for BC

The Federal Government has announced a new program for homebuilding in BC.

Called the Regional Homebuilding Innovation Initiative, it’s a program that would help expand options for homebuilding in the province and foster innovation that can meet the demands of the communities.

The Government of Canada says this comes as BC’s been dealing with an increased demand for housing, which puts pressure on the local housing supply.

Minister of Emergency Preparedness and Minister responsible for the Pacific Economic Development Agency of Canada Harjit S. Sajjan says people need sustainable approaches to building homes.

“The Government of Canada is working hard to support businesses and increase productivity in this sector so that every British Columbian has a place to call home,” said Sajjan.

The government says for this project, they are investing $50 million for over two years to support innovation in the home construction sector. PacifiCan, a company focused on increasing BC’s housing supply, will invest $7.1 million in the project.

They hope this project can give homebuilding a boost not just in BC but also across Canada.
