Province to introduce improved pensions for wildland firefighters

Premier David Eby adds the province will be instituting enhanced pensions for wildland firefighters.

Eby says everyone owes them a deep sense of gratitude for their efforts over the last several fire seasons.

The program is to come into effect in 2026, and officials expect most firefighters with the B-C Wildfire Service to qualify.

They’ll be eligible for the same provisions as others in public safety careers, such as paramedics and corrections officers…..able to qualify for their pension up to five years before others in the public service pension plan.
