Fruitvale Mayor secures BC NDP nomination for Kootenay-Monashee

Steve Morissette, the current Mayor of Fruitvale, has been chosen as the BC NDP candidate for the newly formed Kootenay-Monashee riding in October’s provincial election

Morissette was first elected to Fruitvale council in 2014 before becoming Mayor in 2018.

The Kootenay-Monashee riding is replacing the Kootenay West riding, which included the communities from Trail to Rossland, Beaver Valley, Castlegar, and the entire Slocan Valley.

The new Kootenay-Monashee riding covers just the lower portion of the Slocan Valley but still includes Castlegar, Trail, Beaver Valley, and Rossland.

Morissette’s nomination follows the retirement of longtime Kootenay-West MLA Katrine Conroy, who has served the region since 2005.
