The future of Rossland’s outdoor pool

The Rossland Recreation Master Plan Implementation Select Committee has recommended the city phase out the local outdoor pool and to use to use minimal investment to maintain the pool’s operations while exploring alternative options for seasonal water-use.

“The committee has put together a report to give some guidance for council on the state of the pool currently.” said Rossland Mayor, Andy Morel.

“It encompassed the future of the pool and whether we look to maintain it or whether it goes into decommission, and the committee has recommended that ultimately the pool would likely be considered for closing.”

“The decision of that ultimately rests with council.”

The pool was bult in 1932 by volunteers and has been under scrutiny for some time, according to the Mayor Morel.

At 92 years of age, the pool is still safe to use but fails to meet the required standards.

A ten-page report submitted to council detail the financial risk of keep the pool open and explores alternative options.

“There’s going to be more information sought over the next few months. No decisions have been made at this point and we need to look into what is the best option for the community.”

Council expects to have more information in the fall.
