bridge caught fire, with the first reports of the blaze coming in just before 8:30 p.m.

A total of 19 firefighters from Trail, Montrose, and Warfield battled the blaze for about an hour before it was deemed controlled at 8:48 p.m.

The bridge was closed for about an hour. Trail RCMP helped manage traffic to the downtown core while the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure was on the scene evaluating structural damage.

Wicentowich said that at first, first responders noted that the bridge sustained damage to its electrical wiring components; however, it appeared to be structurally undamaged.

No injuries were reported initially; however, Wicentowich said they received a report of one injury as of Wednesday morning.

A police investigator has spoken to an occupant of the camp and a person of interest.

The cause of the fire is unknown, and an investigation is now underway.

To aid in the investigation, RCMP is asking anyone with surveillance footage of the area to contact the Trail detachment and speak to an investigator.
