Several out of control wildfires ignited in the Kootenays

Dry lightning has caused several fires in the Central and West Kootenay area, many of which remain out of control.

On Wednesday, a storm sparked seven fires in the Nelson area, and four are yet to be controlled.

The Eagle Creek wildfire, above Blewett, has grown from two hectares on Thursday evening to seven hectares by Friday morning.

The East Sandy Creek fire has also grown from 0.005 hectares to 1.5 hectares.

Two new fires that popped up west of Creston on Friday morning are also out of control.

The wildfire at Wall Mountain is 55 hectares in size and a fire at Klooch Creek is 0.03 hectares. Both are presumed to be the result of dry lightning.

In the Slocan Valley, six wildfires remain out of control.

The fires have prompted evacuation alerts and orders for multiple properties in the Regional District of Central Kootenay Electoral Area H.

A wildfire at Alywin Creek forced an evacuation order for 11 properties near Silverton. The fire is still out of control and is 10 hectares in size.

Two fires at Nemo Creek, southeast of Silverton, also remain out of control.

Nemo Creek 1 was discovered on Thursday morning and is currently 0.009 hectares in size, while Nemo Creek 2 is 0.6 hectares.

A out of control fire at Iron Peak, northwest of Silverton, is 0.009 hectares in size and two other fires north of Winlaw are also still active.

More updates to come.
