Single motor vehicle incident involving young mother and child

Trail RCMP officers responded to a single motor vehicle roll over incident in the 8000 block of Highway 3B, in Trail, on Sunday, July 7.

A 21-year-old Salmo woman was travelling in her vehicle when it suddenly swerved across a driving lane and into a cement barricade dividing the road.

The vehicle flipped onto its roof and slid down the road until it slowed to a stop.

The woman managed to exit the vehicle and told a bystander that her young child was still inside.

The bystander broke out the rear window of the vehicle and pulled the child to safety.

The woman suffered minor injuries; however, her child appeared unharmed. Both were transported to the local hospital for further medical assessment.

The cause of the incident is still under investigation.

“It is incredibly important to have Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards approved car seat and it be properly installed to protect our young children. Typically, your local fire department will help you install one if you need assistance.” said Sgt. Wicentowich.
