Police searching for suspect on Highway 3 over Salmo to Creston pass

Motorists are asked to avoid travelling on Highway 3 over the Kootenay Pass from Salmo to Creston as RCMP search for a suspect who fled from police on today, Tuesday, July 2.

According to Cpl. James Grandy, officers with Creston RCMP tried to arrest the suspect, who is believed to be involved in a series of offences when they fled from police in a stolen vehicle.

Officers did not pursue the suspect. Grandy said they were last seen on the Kootenay Pass and are believed to be located on a forest service road somewhere in the area.

Creston, Castlegar, and Salmo RCMP, along with the Southeast Emergency Response Team, are on the scene now attempting to locate the individual.

RCMP ask motorists to avoid travelling in the area while the search is underway and to obey police instructions.

More information to come.
