Too many local women on wrong end of pay scale:Fair Society

A local group is pushing to improve the lives of women in the lower Columbia region.

The Women Creating Change project has two main focuses for families earning less than an annual living wage of $60,000.

Coordinator Tara Howes says one is to improve access to education.

The Skills Centre’s Jan Morton says the other helps women make a living wage by getting jobs outside the retail or social services arena.

A first ever gender based analysis found despite 51% of the regional population being female – less than half of women make more than $24,000 a year.
