Pickup and horse trailer crash into creek near Christina Lake; Horse escapes unscathed

Grand Forks RCMP responded to a vehicle incident east of Christina Lake Monday evening.

Sergeant Darryl Peppler said the detachment was called to the scene just after 8 p.m. with reports of an incident involving a heavy tow vehicle and a pickup pulling a horse trailer on Highway 3 near Lafferty Pitt Road.

The tow truck tipped its load and was blocking both lanes of the highway, which forced the pickup and horse trailer to go off the road and land in a creek beside the highway.

No one was injured in the crash, but a horse did manage to escape the horse trailer, which Peppler said was quickly recovered without any injuries.

Weather and road conditions are not believed to be factors in the crash.

Update: The owner of the horse has reached out to Vista Radio, stating the horse was pregnant at the time of the crash and has sustained long-term injuries.
