Columbia Ave structure fire in Trail

Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire and Rescue (KBRFR) responded to a structure fire in Trail early this morning, June 10.

Crews received a call at 2:17am from a homeowner on Columbia Ave stating their detached garage was on fire at the rear of the property.

“When our crews arrived the garage it was fully involved and had self-vented through the roof,” said Glen Gallamore, Deputy Regional Fire Chief Trail.

“Our crews just pulled some high-volume hose real quick and did a rapid knockdown to try and prevent extension to the neighboring garage or the two residents that were fairly close proximity to the garage that was burning.”

Twelve fire-fighters were on the scene, and regained control of the fire by 3:30am.

There were no injuries to the homeowners or emergency services, but the fire did result in some heat damage to the neighbouring homes.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, however, it isn’t being treated as suspicious.

KBRFR confirms this fire is not related to last week’s structural fire on Buckna Street in Trail.
